On Being Single

Over in Road to Abundance I wrote a note to celebrate Singleness in All Its Glory. I wrote it because I don’t want anyone to have some sort of misguided idea or some preconception that you can only live in Abundance if you are Married. My point is that actually no one will live in abundance until they love themselves and develop to their fullest potential. I believe we all have to take ourself where we are and make a decision to be happy. Make a conscious effort to be content … only then, will you see abundance all around … whether you are single or married.

Here are some great resources for the Single in our world. Never assume you have to make it on your own. When you are stumbling through every day, struggling to maintain peace in your own heart, or are living in dissatisfaction then look to those who are happy, who seem fulfilled, who have answers and get the guidance you may be lacking.

These are a few suggestions of many resources available. You can browse here or go directly to CBD and look around. Either way, know there is hope for an outstanding life in singleness. You can rejoice in who you are, just where you are in life.

Singles at the Crossroads: A Fresh Perspective on Christian Singleness

By Albert Y. Hsu / Inter-varsity Press

Nearly half of adults today are unmarried yet most churches emphasize marriage and family, leaving many Christian singles feeling marginalized or alienated. Though they look to Jesus and Paul as role models, many suspect they would be more acceptable to the church if they settled down and got married. Hsu challenges this view. Moving beyond pat answers, Hsu proposes that singleness and marriage are both opportunities in which to follow Jesus. Singles at the Crossroads points the way to a Christian community where all members are valued, Jew and Gentile, slave and free, male and female, married and single.

544110: Living Whole Without a Better Half

Living Whole Without a Better Half

By Wendy Widder / Kregel Publications

The issues of single and married Christians are essentially the same, because they are the products of fallen humanity-loneliness, unfulfulled desires, unanswered questions, pain, rejection, and fear. This book urges us not to let the assumptions of others taint God’s view of who we are. It includes character studies of people in the Bible and shows how the lessons they learned can apply to single Christians. Chapters include “Abraham-Unsolved Mysteries,” “Moses-I think I’ll Go Eat Worms,” and “Jacob and Joseph-I Did It My Way.” Widder blends the experience of being single and the truths of God’s Word, always with a sense of humor, to proclaim God’s promises of eternal life-with no marital strings attached.
